New Book Release: Minding My Black Ass Business [audio sample]

During this era, we hear how Black folks have stepped aside during these chaotic times. However, there are those who find themselves doing that in their own homes, tired of feeling like a ghost.

Description

Darius Ellison is a wallet. Dr. Amara Lewis is a calendar.

To the outside world, they are Black excellence personified: a high-earning tech executive in Atlanta and a brilliant psychotherapist in the Pacific Northwest. But inside their own homes, they have been reduced to infrastructure—invisible support beams keeping the lights on for families who only notice them when they break. Darius is a "Prop" for his influencer wife’s brand; Amara is the "Utility" for a husband who optimizes their life like a spreadsheet.

Driven to the brink of collapse, they flee to the same remote stretch of the Olympic Peninsula, desperate for the one thing they cannot afford: silence. But when a storm traps them together in the deep woods, they don’t find a sordid affair. They find something far more dangerous: a Union.

They form Local 303, a secret non-aggression pact against the noise of the world. The rules are simple: No sex. No trauma dumping. No performing. In the safety of the trees, they strip away the "strong Black" armor and rediscover the people underneath—the ones who love bad wine, hate jazz, and just want to sit on a porch without solving a crisis.

But peace is a threat to a world that runs on their labor. As their spouses track them down and their secret sanctuary is breached, Darius and Amara must decide if this "glitch" in their reality is just a vacation or a necessary revolution.

Minding Black Azz Business is a sharp, soulful exploration of what happens when two people decide to cheat on their lives—not with another person, but with themselves. It is a story about the ultimate luxury: the right to resign from the struggle and simply exist.
